Lucrecia Navarro in Anandha Ray's La Mujer Serpiente

In Search of the Healing Ray ...

There's an old saying, if you have to go thru a storm, lower your head and move to the center of that powerful fury and ride it out. Like a fighter pilot, manuvering his jet to the center of a typhoon, to ride out the thundering violence.

Ms Anandha Ray follows that same road map with regards to healing. In order to really heal, one must go thru the darkness, thru their own darkness, no matter how deep, extensive and scary that shadow may be. Only then can one move forward in a true healing light.

The beauty of Mother Nature herself, is that although she's always destroying, she's also always healing every moment. The ultimate in the ying/yang philosophy of our existence.

If the movie Blade Runner (1982), had not been about our struggles against mortality thru the eyes of Science Fiction, but instead about our search for meaning thru the eyes of dance - then the photo above, taken at SFMAF 2019, would be the perfect scene from that imaged, altered movie.

This photo is one of the most surprising captured images ever taken at our festival within Grace Cathedral. That's saying a lot after 6 years and 7 shows.

As Founder and Director of the San Francisco Movement Arts Festival, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the arts, for me, is when different fields of art overlap one another. Whether deliberately, by shear accident or most important, thru imagination and visualness.
